This is a practical, introductory course to playing the guitar (acoustic or electric) in a group setting. Suitable for complete beginners or those who have not picked up a guitar in a long time, we will start with the basics and develop to play a range of songs and musical exercises.
This course is suitable for those with no previous experience, starting with the absolute basics of -
- String names
- Playing ‘open’ strings
- Learning about and playing to the beat / pulse
- Fretting notes
- Leaning about and playing very simple melodies
- Learning and playing chord shapes
- Playing to online video mini songs & exercises complete with backing tracks (large screen provided in the library meeting room)
- Beginner strumming / rhythm guitar playing exercises using the above chord knowledge
You will have access to all the online resources used on the course, for practicing at home.

Guitar - if you do not own a guitar, these can be hired from Inspire Music. Please ring 0115 977 3287 for more information and to hire an instrument

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
