Meet the Inspire Buttermarket team and their curious friends and Newark Market Place

Published 2nd September 2022

The Inspire team and some eccentric friends will be in Newark Market Place on Saturday 3rd and 10th September, promoting a wonderful new Inspire facility, due to be opening in the Autumn at the Buttermarket.

The Buttermarket is currently being renovated into an exciting learning space for adults, families, and young people. Works are currently underway to transform room off the mezzanine floor - managed by partners and building owners Newark and Sherwood District Council - who have invited Inspire to take up residence in the historical building.

The Buttermarket will create a lively hub for learning, creativity and exploration and become a valued venue for educational and cultural activities in the heart of Newark town centre. Working with Newark Library and new learning spaces at the YMCA Activity Village, Newark is on track to become a trailblazer for inspiring cultural and learning activities across the county.

Visit the Inspire team at Newark Market Place on Saturday 3rd and 10th September, where you can also have a go at some great puzzle buster and craft activities and find out more from our team about what will be on offer at the Buttermarket, including cultural and educational opportunities for young people and adults, three brand-new learning spaces, fully accessible state of the art facilities and brilliant tutors.

Inspire Adult Learning be offering a range of courses for adults including Employability, ESOL, Health and Wellbeing, Arts & Crafts, Creative writing & Literature, Education, English, Health & Wellbeing, Languages, Maths, Music and Work skills & Employment.

It will also be a new base for the Inspire College study programmes, offering courses in Employability and Functional Skills, as well the opportunity to re-sit GCSEs in Maths and English. Inspire College recently celebrated some excellent results in their GCSE re-sits this year, scoring pass rates of 63% in maths, and 42% in English – well above the national resit average for this year.

Join the Inspire team and the following curious characters from 10.00am until 3.30pm on the following days and times:

Damsels in Distress – Sat 3rd Sept at 10.30 – 11, 12.15 – 45 and 1.45 – 2.15

Riding on delightfully drippy dragons, these ‘bootiful’ Westcountry damsels with their black teeth, spots and long gnarly hair are on a constant futile crusade to find their knights in shining armour and other little princes and princesses along the way!

Belladonna and Her Venus Flap traps – Sat 3rd Sept at 11.30 – 12.00, 1.00 – 1.30 and 2.30 – 3.00

Is your hand steady enough that you dare to feed the flytraps yourself? Or will you help Aristotle the batty bluebottle to escape from their deadly clutches? Watch out that you don’t get sucked in by her charm too, as she entices the foolish fly towards his sweet, toothy decline.

Hippochondriac – Sat 10th Sept at 10.30 – 11.10, 12.10 – 12.50 and 1.40 to 2.20

Part animal and part mechanical, Hieronymus the hippo is feeling under the weather. Fortunately, his companion doctor/mechanic is only too eager to show you what’s under the bonnet to diagnose the problem. What follows is an array of puppet shows built into the troubled creature revealing the origin of his malaise.

Voyages Extraordinaire – Sat 10th Sept at 11.30 – 12.00, 1.00 – 1.30 and 2.30 – 3.00

Meet these eccentric, Jules Verne style, silent characters in their early flying machine navigating Newark Market Place.  For audiences of all ages, humorous, yet thought provoking, it is fun to watch and inviting to participate in.
