The next chapter opens for the Inspire Board

Members of Nottinghamshire’s new cultural organisation now have the opportunity to vote-in four Community Board members. Inspire recently opened the opportunity to its 29,000 members to stand for election.

Launched on 1 April 2016 Inspire delivers the following services in Nottinghamshire: public libraries, archives, arts, County Youth Arts, Instrumental Music Teaching in schools, Community Learning and Skills Service, Nottinghamshire Music Hub and the Education Library Service.

Members had the opportunity to meet with Inspire’s Chief Executive Peter Gaw to find out more about the voluntary positions.  Twenty five members are standing in the election. As Elected Directors on the Inspire Board they will have the opportunity to have a say in the future of culture, learning and libraries in Nottinghamshire.

Members are invited to read Candidate manifestos and then vote for four nominees who they think can fulfil the role of Community Director for the next three years. This can be done online, in any Nottinghamshire Library and at Nottinghamshire Archives.  Only Inspire members can vote – Inspire membership is free, and members also get newsletters, special offers, discounts on events and an invitation to its Annual General Meeting.  Inspire members have until 19 September to vote for up to four candidates.

It was fantastic to get out and meet so many members who are so passionate about Inspire and the future of culture, learning and libraries in Nottinghamshire. I hope Inspire members will take the time to read the candidate manifesto’s and vote during this stage of the Election”.

Elected Directors, will be required to attend Board meetings (usually quarterly) held throughout Nottinghamshire, may be asked to join Board sub-committees and will be invited to attend some of Inspire’s fantastic range of cultural events around Nottinghamshire. Appointments are for three years and will confirmed at its annual AGM on 12 October at Mansfield Central Library.
